5 Hacks to Becoming the Ideal Working Professional

Professional development is one of the essentials when considering areas of growth at work.
The playing field and the relationships at work are different from what happens at home and other casual spots. People must always be on their best behavior while staying true to themselves.

However, the pressure and demands of the job can get in the head and disrupt the daily flow. A person's thinking can become blurry. When that happens, they build their life around the office. They may neglect their needs, family members, and their passion towards various pursuit.

Whether a manager, supervisor or team leader, here are five hacks to be the ideal working professional.

1. Get to know your team.

It won't matter if you've been a year or ten years in the company. If you don't know anyone well enough to work with them or conduct an afternoon chat during break time, then you're not adding value to the company.

Bonding and forming relationships strengthen the camaraderie between colleagues. Teams who spend more time together are highly effective at solving problems. They are more empathic, learn about each person's strengths and working style. Most of all, they are invested in mutual success.

2. Acknowledge the power of feedback.

Of the things you avoid at work, feedback tops the list. It's because it has the power to trump a person's ego. In reality, receiving professional feedback is similar to being open to opportunities. It engages the team or working partners to communicate their ideas and opinion on specific issues.

On top of that, feedback is a two-way street. Receiving entails giving so you have a chance to voice out the things that other people on your team can still improve. Moreover, spectators or third parties can a learn a thing or two from listening to the conversation.

3. Hide your phone.

Your smartphone is only useful at work for picking up personal calls. The rest of the things you need in a phone are available on the computer. Keep your phone in your bag or drawer to minimize your distraction from work. Become present and pay attention to the tasks at hand. Most of all, have more time to interact with people in the workplace.

4. Discover the passion in what you do.

“If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life.” The accuracy of this quote never fails. It applies to all aspects of life that require an extensive amount of time and effort. When you look for the happiness and fulfillment in mundane activities, you win at life.

If you have an old flame, say weekend workouts, visiting a Rockwell gym and signing up for their classes give you something to look forward.

5. Schedule other activities in your life besides work.

No one looks back in their life and wishes they spent more time at the office. If you wasted half of your life in the office last year, you must consider breaking the habit and injecting balance in your life. You can try a new hobby or revisit an old one. Playing a sport or spending more time with family are also viable options.

If you can't squeeze any of these in your schedule, it's a sign that you need to adjust a part of your life. Setting a time limit to daily activities, maximizing time at work, and keeping a window hour for rest is crucial to regaining balance in your life.

There are other ways to be the best version of yourself at work. These hacks are the basics. You can add and improve them as you get used to the idea. Improvement stems from research. Extensive reading and immersing yourself in different experiences helps you to discover the sides of yourself you never knew were there.
