Your employees and staff are your allies. They are your most valued resource. They are always behind-the-scene keeping the engines of your company moving.

Here are some tips to guide and empower your employees when in the workplace.

1. Keep everyone in the loop.

Connect your staff members. Become the force that brings them together. initiate conversations with easy and light topics. Encourage get-to-know activities. Guide them to be open and sociable to their peers.

2. Avoid hypocrisy.

Be true to your words. What applies to you is also true for your employees. Be mindful of your actions and attitude. Be someone who everyone enjoys working with and do what you ought to do while enjoying it. Do all of these while being true to your self.

3. Include the team on new hire decisions.

Don't force new people on the team. Not all of them are comfortable with the idea of working with someone new may be uncomfortable for some. Thus, avoid making permanent decisions without consulting everyone on the team.

Get the team's input on the new hire. It helps you find the right way to delegate and manage their department and tasks. Remember to consider the opinion and thoughts of the new team members. They may have inputs and values that may change the way you think.

4. Embrace work delegation.

Share your workload. Trust your people and teach them to be independent. Allow them to make decisions and take action. Work delegation minimizes your stress levels, gets things done with less time and resources, and elevates your staff's skill set.


5. Listen to input.

When in a company or a business setting, you are surrounded by people with different values, skills, and thoughts. Their level of intelligence is different from yours so they are sure to have a thing or two to teach and share with you. The staff also sees things you often overlook as their leader and mentor. In this situation, be a feedback sponge. Don't fight or underestimate them.

6. Avoid interruptions.

Time is essential to business. If your time is important, so are theirs. Try not to distract or disturb them while they are working. Respect their time and be courteous when needing their presence or asking a favor.

7. Don't incentivize bad behavior.

No one is perfect. Don't expect your employees to be right or on cue at all times. However, establishing clear rules sets them in line. It also helps you determine when to use sanctions and apply the necessary actions or punishment.


8. Limit excuses.

Don't be the source or making excuses. Teach your employees to accept and become accountable for their actions and job. Push them to focus on their work to catch up on deadlines and create value in the company. Excuses translate to laziness and lack of responsibility and commitment towards the company and their role in it.


9. Highlight the purpose of the job.

When you analyze the cause and effect of your role in the company, you omit the part why you do your job. Thinking of the reason you get to the office can burden your brain and make you unproductive. Share this trick with your staff to make them look forward to each workday.


10. Show love and passion for your work.

Enjoying your work manifests in your daily actions. Exert love and passion for your job and you'll never work a day in your life, they say. Most of all, showing these affections towards your tasks makes it easy to work on them and encourage your team to do the same.
